Spontaneous Trip!!

Justin & I both admit we aren't the most spontaneous people... but we surprised ourselves, and ended up in Sacramento, 200 miles away, watching the Kings play the NY Knicks!
This is how it happened...
Getting back from out holiday break, we had one day to rest and then drove to Fresno for a friends wedding... Congrats to Mike & Sarah!!! We didn't want to drive home 2 1/2 hours in the dark, so we decided to get a hotel for the night. The next day, we had plans to attend a session at the Fresno temple, however when we pulled into the parking lot, there were no cars! I guess we should have planned differently, it was New Years Eve and the temple was closed. :( It was still nice to see the Temple. It is one of the smaller temples they started building to be able to have temples closer to the members. We have never seen one of the smaller temples, it was still just as beautiful, and had a wonderful presence about it.
So... as we were on our way home, just outside of Fresno, we both caught eye of a mileage sign... Sacramento- North 165 miles, & Monterey- West 150 miles... we looked at each other and I said, "if the Kings have a home game tonight we should go?!" We had wanted to take a weekend while we were here and stay in Sacramento to see the Kings, and yes... Jimmer, play sometime. But what were the chances they would be playing at home, on New Years Eve? They were!!! So, we passed the junction heading west to Monterey, and headed north to Sacramento instead!
We got tickets, got a hotel, and headed to the game! If only the Kings would have won... :) We did get to see Jimmer play though, so that was fun. We even stumbled across a Leatherby's on our way back to the hotel and took it as a sign that we needed to get ice cream there! I couldn't believe my eyes. I called my brother, Jordan, right away to get the story. I knew he could give us the SCOOP (no pun intended...) because he used to work at the Leatherby's in Taylorsville and Midvale. He informed me that Leatherby's indeed actually started in Sacramento... I always thought it was original to Utah! It made for a fun night.
On our way home we drove west to a quaint city called Sausalito, north of San Francisco & the Golden Gate Bridge. We drove across the Golden Gate Bridge, to San Francisco and made our way home!
One last thing I have to write about... The beauty of the Golden Gate Bridge is breathtaking! We have now been to San Francisco three times, and this was our first time across the bridge. It is something I would recommend to anyone visiting the bay area. The pictures don't do it justice!
